Homeschool Flute Choir
Beginner - age 10, 11, 12
Class Objective: Learn to play the flute! Together with a class, learn the parts of the flute, how to put it together, flute maintenance, and how to produce quality flute tones, along with basic fingerings. Students will learn music theory as they learn each new piece of music. Class meets two days a week.
Intermediate- at least 2 years experience
Class Objective: To instill a love and appreciation for music while learning to play the flute together in a class setting. Students will learn flute repertoire while preparing for concerts and possible contests. The class will acquire skills in performance etiquette as well as having the opportunity to learn flute techniques and warm-ups. Students will also be given the opportunity to learn music in the fall and audition in a recorded "blind" audition for a position in the Texas Private School Music Educators Association (TPSMEA) Middle School Honor Band (grades 7 & 8) and the All-State Band (grades 9-12). These coveted spots are an honor and bring further opportunities for a special performance with the TPSMEA Honor Band and All-State Band! (Auditions for Honor Band and All-State are optional). Class meets two days a week.
Advanced- High School and young adult
Class Objective: Exploring flute repertoire while preparing for concerts and possible contests. Students will acquire skills in performance etiquette as well as having the opportunity to learn flute techniques and warm-ups. Students will also be given the opportunity to learn intermediate - advanced flute literature in the fall, and audition in a recorded "blind" audition for a position in the Texas Private School Music Educators Association (TPSMEA) All-State Band (grades 9-12). Students of this age also have the opportunity to audition for the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) Region and State Auditions. These auditions are in-person, yet "blind" and are competitive with public school students. These coveted spots are an honor and bring further opportunities for a special performance with the TPSMEA/TMEA Honor Band and All-State Band! (Auditions for Honor Band and All-State are optional). Class meets two days a week.
